“This is an illegality against the heroic Cuban people that deserve respect, because Cuba participated in the liberation of Africa, supported the African people, and Africa supports Cuba,” pointed out the Foreign Minister of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).

In an interview with Prensa Latina in Addis Ababa, where he attends the Ministerial Segment of the 21st summit of the African Union (AU), Salek insisted that the U.S. economic blockade to the island “should be completely eliminated in the shortest time possible.”

He recalled the statements by the Cuban revolutionary government in favor of the cause of the Saharawi people and the condemnation to the occupation of part of its territory by Morocco, saying that this position has been unchanged over the years in several global forums.

The AU has maintained its support to the Saharawi cause, and accepted as a full member to the SADR, which in turn motivated the unilateral decision of Rabat regime of refusing to be a member of the largest African integration mechanism.
