Camagüey, Cuba, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) With more and better films on display compared with previous editions, the 23rd “Almacen de Imagen” Film Showcase has opened today in this city.
Young filmmakers from 12 provinces throughout Cuba along with others from France, Brazil, Argentina, and Poland who are studying at the International Film School in San Antonio de los Baños, Havana, are competing at this event, permanently hosted by the city of Camagüey, some 570 kilometers east of the Cuban capital.
Reynaldo P. Labrada, president of the organizing committee, said that the jury chose around 99 films to be screened through September 22. In the previous event, only 66 were offered.
He explained that short films prevail at this year’s edition, sponsored by the Hermanos Saiz Association, which brings together young Cuban artists. Documentary films were the majority last year.
“The films in competition in this edition have an appreciable difference, in that the filmmakers are better trained, with better projection and use of cinema resources, especially in the case of editing, photography, and direction,” Labrada said.
He praised the participation in the competition of graduates from the Higher Institute of Arts, the Cuban universities, and the International Film School at San Antonio de los Baños, Havana.
