Washington, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) At least seven people died, nine are still missing and more than 40 were injured after two building collapsed in Manhattan, New York, following an explosion. CNN reported today. A spokesperson from the local police said the number of fatalities is likely to increase as the search continues through the rubble, since there were many people present at the time. The explosion in East Harlem may have been caused by a gas leak, but official causes have not been determined yet.
A spokesperson from Consolidated Edison company said the company had received an emergency phone call yesterday around 9 am, minutes before the explosion that leveled the buildings.
“This is a tragedy of the worst kind, because there was no indication in time to save people,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
